Week 9 is upon us, and we have another sizely bye week and we’re at the half-way point. Some injuries to keep an eye on as we head into the week.

The picture is coming into focus—trends are forming, and the data is stabilizing. We’ve got four teams on bye this week; Cleveland, New York Jets, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay. So plan accordingly for your IDPs.

Want my latest green dot report and full IDP projections? You can grab them over at The IDP Show.

As always, the goal here is simple: give you the context, insights, and matchup trends you need to set your lineups with confidence.

I won’t go too deep on cornerbacks in this one, but if you’re craving matchup-level analysis, check out The Cornerback Corner.

Alright, enough preamble. Let’s dive into the Week 9 matchups.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins

  • Mike Green got off to a solid start after the bye, notching a sack against the Bears. He has a tough match with the improving Patrick Paul. Paul hasn’t allowed a sack since Week 5 or a QB hit all season. He’s doing a good job keeping Tua clean.

  • Trenton Simpson is back to the bench with Roquan Smith back on the field. Smith took back the green dot, and Teddye Buchanan saw the majority of the snaps as the LB2 in their nickel/2-LB defense. Smith returned to form for his IDP owners with a double-digit performance.

  • With four teams on bye, Teddye Buchanan is in the LB4 conversation. He saw 44 snaps in Week 8, but has a good matchup with the Dolphins this week. The Dolphins have allowed 42 total tackles to LBs over the last two weeks.

  • The Dolphins are a below average matchup for safeties, so Kyle Hamilton is the only one I trust this week. Hamilton’s usage changed a bit over the last few weeks. He didn’t play any deep safety snaps, and just one snap as “strong safety”. He mostly played off-ball or in the slot. This was the case in Week 6 before the bye. Hamilton has recorded 8+ tackles in three of the last four weeks and is playing 66% of his snaps on the LOS.

  • Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb have a tougher matchup with the Baltimore offensive line, plus the mobile Lamar Jackson looks to be returning this week. Roger Rosengarten and Ronnie Stanley have allowed 5 sacks and 2 QB hits this season. Although he didn’t get a sack, Phillips is coming off a decent game against Atlanta with 2 QB hits and a 31.3% win rate.

  • Chubb has the tough draw with Stanley. Stanley hasn’t allowed a sack since Week 3 and has yet to allow a QB hit. Chubb is off my streaming radar.

  • Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson are matchup proof. The Ravens are allowing 19 tackles/gm to the LB position over the last four weeks.

  • Mikah Fitzpatrick suffered a thumb injury, but should be ready to go this week. The Ravens are an average matchup for safeties and haven’t allowed a safety to for more than 6 tackles this season.
